On to Adelaide

In all the excitement of the world cup I had not noticed that our fourth member of the team had caught another ride, leaving just the three of us. Was it something I said to the Frog?

So with just three of us we headed for William Creek Road, heading east across the desert towards the Oodnadatta Track and then south. I was not feeling 100% (I thought it was a hang-over, it was only later do I find out that it was not the case) so I crashed in the back while Amanda and John take the wheel. After about and hour they realise we are going in the wrong direction.. Oppps

London Only 15,340 klicks!

After seeing nothing but desert for so long seeing a bubbling oasis was an odd sight at "Wabma Kadarbu Mound Springs"

Along the route are the various rusty and crumbling ruins of the original "Old Ghan Railway"

We were now only about 500 klicks north of Adelaide at the top of the Flinders Ranges. We are all wrapped up in fleeces even though it was still in mid-30's, we come far to accustomed to the scorching temperatures and crazy humidity up north.

We ventured into the Flinders National Park, I was so ill that I was freezing cold even though I was wrapped in various layers and sleeping bags. None of us feeling 100% we only really stopped to take a few photos, it was nothing compared to the sights we had already seen.

Once camped up at Winpena Pound, I decide to curl up and die, not able to eat or even have enough energy move, I decided to sweat it out. I woke before first light next morning feeling 1,000,000% better, I had sweat so much though the night I was able to ring out the sweat from my sleeping bag.

The night before the guys had been talking to some people camping close to us, between them that had decided to get me to the hospital the next morning. Due to my symptoms they believed I had Melengitous, luckly I was now functioning again. The only problem was now Amanda and John were now starting to feel rough.

I took the wheel for the rest of the long drive back to Adelaide, stopping at a few choice spots along the way. We must have passed half a dozen eagles with wing spans as wide as Tina feeding off large road kill. They just know I had the camera out as every time I tried to take a photo they were away.

We rolled into Adelaide late, but I had already arranged accommodation with my old friends at the Adelaide Backpackers Inn. We had arrived in time for House Apple pie and Ice Cream.. civilisation at last.
