Tina spent a few days being over hulled at the garage while the rest of us were recovering from our desert experiences by watching the Rugby and the fantastic (Now WORLD Champions) England Rugby Team trash the Frogs.
Soon was time to head back out into the red nothingness of the desert, this time I had not planed to come back to Alice (fingers crossed). Claire had left us, deciding to take the safer option of the train. The whole adventure was a bit to much of real adventure for her liking.
The rest of the team were born adventures, tough as they come and now seasoned outback survivors.. everything else was child's play.
A visit to Rainbow Valley was on my plans, Yes another 4x4 drive track but nothing compared to what Tina had already seen. In no time at all Tina was back to the way she liked it DIRTY.. We had only finished polishing her up the day before in Alice.
But Surprise, Surprise it was not long until even this track had given Tina something to think about. So I was back to Field repairs and my almost daily state of being covered in grease and oil.
While fixing the fault I did wonder how other vehicles cope out here, I had not seen many carrying the amount of spares and equipment that I did. But then not many did what Tina was doing and you could spot the outback types, just by looking at what they were carrying.
After leaving Rainbow Valley we headed towards 'Yulara' (the tourist town that guards the entrance to 'Uluru' (Aires Rock) and 'Kata Tjuta' (the Olgers).
It was not long until we had more problems with Tina this time she started over heating in the hot desert air. Luckily I had smelt the boiling of cooling fluid. We pulled over to find the main hose into the head had ruptured. As if by magic we were hit by a storm lashing down around us, cooling Tina's over heating engine. A quick in-field fix and then a slow limp back 100kms to a outback fuel station for parts.
We made it into Yulara has the sun started to set, lighting up the stormy clouds into magnificent rainbow colours. The tarpaulin attached to Tina protects us from the non-stop rain as I cook up a well needed dinner.
