Devils Marbles to East McDonald Ranges

As the Sun lowers in the sky ending another day, we speed nearer to the centre of Australia. Our stop for the night was the 'Devils Marbles' we arrived just as the Sun was starting to cast its closing shadows for the night.

The photo above was taken after the sun had vanished and the only light was from the stars and the moon lighting up our camp. Any wonder why we crashed for the night staring into the hypnotic heavens far above us.

That nights camp was within the Devils Marbles National Park. It was a warm clear night I wondered what magical sites we would see tomorrow as the sun broke, alarms were set so as not to miss the sun break.

The sun rise next morning was magnificent, keeping us all very much silent and absorbed in its beauty.

After finally leaving the Marbles behind us we headed for the infamous Alice Springs, the town at the heart of this baron red land. Only stopping along the way to take various pictures of the bazaar road signs, which by now had become a passion of mine.

At the first opportunity in town, I got rid of the youngest part of the team. It was not because he vanished regularly, nor was it to do with the fact he did nothing to help around camp or even because the little loon tried to set fire to a field of dry grass on purpose. I just thought he was more warped than me and that even scared me.

Anyway we found our camp site in town and spent a few days getting ourselves together for the East McDonald Ranges, when not watching essential RUGBY WORLD CUP GAMES. Meanwhile I had bumped into Clare, I had met her previously many moons before in Kalgoorlie. The last time I recall seeing her, I was bent over a chair in Langtrees (The most famous brothel in Oz) being spanked across my ass with a leather studded strap that she had picked up. Strange things happen in Kal! After a bit of catching up, Clare and her friend Amanda decided to join us on our discovery travels down the middle of OZ.

After visiting the "Emily" & "Jessie" Gaps as well as the "Corrobree rock" Tina took us through some good 4WD roads, to "Trephina Gorge". Above and below is the ghost gum tree, with its own ghosts or is that gums!

We had some great views as we walked up over the top of the gorge and then back down through it's centre.

Another rough drive took us to another part of the gorge. The river and cascading pools now dry or stagnant. But even more fun, as far as I was concerned.. was the time to climbing. Anything that could or shouldn't be climbed I tried (No surprise I hear a lot of you say, well not broken bones this time).

On the stroll around the river bed we found a number of caves. Clare decided that she would take the photos from below, whilst the rest clabbered up the rock faces to investigate.

Tina not only liked it rough she liked it wet too, What a girl.
