Darwin had been my home for long enough, Heleen had decided to continue with me as my only surviving
original team member, but only as far as Katherine. I had planned a good route
and with the help of the GPS we should be fine.
Heleen and I had meet a Dutch lad John a few weeks before in our hostel, we had become good friends
and after telling him about the trip he decided to Join the Tina team down to
Adelaide. We had two other members joined us, a
French girl, who Heleen persuaded me to take and give a chance (Frogs... Grrrr)
and a young Dutch lad who joined us at the last moment.
Night came upon us still with the dark thunderous sky surrounding us, as the last of the suns rays blended onto darkness the skies filled with cascades of colour .
At Katherine Gorge, we were up early to find our youngest team member had vanished. The hope that something large and hairy had dragged him away during the night was ended as he reappeared having spend the night sleeping elsewhere on a picnic table. After a little debate we decided to hire canoes rather than do the normal walks that we had got used to doing around gorges.
The water was drinkable, well maybe not-so after we started our synchronized swimming in it.
I was not sure how it worked but the signs said we could not land on the beaches due to Crocs, but it was Ok to swim!! Well you all know:
"What Does Not Kill You, Will Make You Stronger"
It was time to say good bye to Heleen, after so long together she had got well used to me and we had grown a strong friendship.
I was sad to see my last original team member go, I was not sure how things were going to go without
Heleen, she was
always in the right place at the right time to keep the team going.
Heleen thanks for everything, you are always welcome at my door and yes you have
a place on my next adventure.
I think the Desert heat is getting to us.. Do you really think So!!
